For many children with special needs, Halloween can be a difficult time of year. “Our daughter uses a wheelchair to get around and we can’t navigate sidewalks and stairs,” says Lisa, the mother of a nine year old girl. “Until Trick or Suite came along, we had no options for her. We’ve taken her to the event the past two years in a row and she loves it. It’s indoors, entirely handicapped accessible, and she’s surrounded by kids just like her.”
Embassy Suites’ Trick or Suite event is one of the most highly anticipated events of the year for CTC families. The hotel closes off an entire floor for the event and sponsors decorate rooms with different themes to delight kids of all ages. “Last year they had a superheroes room, a Moana room, and so many more,” says Lisa. “It was amazing. I can’t believe how creative the suites were and how hard everyone works to pull this off for us!”
More than 90 families attended the event last year, which was open to all families receiving services from CTC and included siblings. Eighteen vendors – including CTC’s Board of Directors’ member Susan Adams – hosted suites, and the majority donated the suite for the evening for lucky families who were randomly selected to stay overnight free of charge. “This was an incredible evening for families, and to be able to spend the night and enjoy all the hotel amenities on top of that was really special for families,” says CEO Barry Gourley.
This year’s event will be held on Saturday, October 27. CTC families may register by calling Leslie at 253-854-5660. Space is limited, so call today!
